Straw Pole: The top five most influential biomechanics papers this decade

    Hi All,

    Just interested in feedback from you all on your views as to what you think have been the top five most influential biomechanics papers/publications this decade, as related to the understanding of podiatric biomechanics. The criteria I'd ask you to consider would be things like: scientific merit, clinical relevance, and influence on practice.

    I'll be interested to see what pops up & readers think.

    Kumar, S. (2001). "Theories of musculoskeletal injury causation." Ergonomics 44
    (1): 17-47. - A very simple, but concise explanation of the soft tissue theory?

    Here are five papers that I have learned a great deal from that have been published over the past 13 years. However, the papers that have most influenced me are from many years before 1995.

    I have held of replying for a day while I think about this one ... there have been a lot of good publications, but the more I think about it ... most have not changed my way of thinking or changed my way of clinical practice in recent years.

    I can only think of one publication that has done that (ie changed my understanding and changed my clinical practice - I mean changed as opposed to enhanced my understanding). Most publications fit in with what I say and do and don't contradict it with enough quality for me to modify my undertsanding.

    The key one for me has to be:
    It had a big impact on my thinking about how foot orthoses work which in turn changed the way I teach and practice.

    Thnx for these responses. Really very well considered and its great to see what's influencing peoples thinking. I can identify with some of these papers, but must admit, others are new, and I'll look forward to reading the new ones.
