many many times, people talk about footballs hard men, Vinnie Jones, Norman Hunter etc. Never saw him play, but so many folks in the Potteries talk about when a player nailed him and broke his tibia. At half time, he told the physio to "just strap it up, theres revenge to be had"

When I was a student at Durham, i went to see Sunderland play Oxford (managed by Smithy). I asked him if he was "ow rate". recognising my accent, he asked me what i was doing in the North-east. We had a nice chat, and he finished by wishing me well in my studies, and hoped the best for me.

    Top, top man.

I have to apologise now for the tesco ready meal comment. I would also like to congratulate our world cup team on their efforts so far. Jimmy Anderson looks to be taking the next step.

Our mismanaged podiatry departments have been running on a false economy for way too long.

podtiger, the false economy in the podiatry is a microcosm of the wider, shocking waste of money that happens in the NHS every minute. Its far to big a problem to get into in this thread but what i will say is that i dont see a problem with us ordering in what we feel is appropriate for the patient (or making -whatever) and charging them exactly what it costs us so that no profit is being made but we dont loose any money and the patient doesnt get ripped of. I have suggested this to "the powers" but was told i wasnt allowed. So what happens is i order shed loads of insoles/orhtoses whilst they expect me to provide a service for nothing, leading to frequent warnings of going over budget. complete kn*bends.
the NHS is both a brilliant and frustrating place to work!
    cheers

I agree with you about it being brilliant a nd frustrating at the same time.
Im sure if you put forward that proposition of them paying cost price for a quality product most would be happy to pay. I think sometimes the system is overly politically correct to its own detriment. It' like a form of wacky communism with no grey areas. I've got a gut feeling that there would be a lot of practitioners who would jealously guard the fact that everything within the NHS is free and should be accessible to everyone. Maybe there should be means testing. Actually that's a whole can of worms and 100 threads rolled into 1
