I don't think that that one has been updated for several years.

There is also Portal Education and there will be another one launching soon ... watch this space ;)

Thanks Paul, will keep an eye out for it.

Another site is the Khan Academy. This isn't healthcare specific, though has a small section on that: http://www.khanacademy.org/science/healthcare-and-medicine

I mainly use it for my kids Maths learning but it does give some good overview on certain health aspects.

    Cheers

The Khan Academy is interesting. I recently watched a TED talk by the founder and his focus is on maths; but what he advocated was the use of videos (ie the maths videos) for the kids to watch at home as "homework" and then at school they do what would have traditionally been done as "homework" where the teacher was available to help.

So, what is proposed was that the "homework" should be to watch the lecture and then the classroom time be used to do the problems/problem solving/etc - the opposite of what is traditionally done in schools .... it struck a chord with me.

He made some compelling arguments to support what he suggested.

It's already started at some schools in Australia and there is growing evidence that it achieves better results.

Looking through high schools for my kids (starting 2014) I went to Cornish College in Melbourne's south and that's what they do for Maths. Homework consists of learning new stuff via the Khan Academy and then the school maths lessons are structured more like tutorials where kids put what they learn into practice with the assistance of the teacher.

Its one of the reasons PORTAL Education went in the direction it did. It makes a huge amount of sense agreed!

I've registered for DFCon Paul. Will be very interesting to see how it goes. Will probably block off a days training for the pods at my work the week after to go through the highlights.

Personally I'm quite excited by what all this means for the future. Currently conferences can be very expensive, not just for attendance but also travel, time, accomodation. Being able to attend a global Diabetic Foot conference without the travel expenses should be great.

Fantastic - please feel free to spread it amongst colleagues and friends in all medical fields. The response has been overwhelming, and I know everyone at PORTAL is quite humbled today watching all the sign ups come in live from around the globe. The more people that embrace the concept, the better the concept can be developed in the future. The entire PORTAL engine has been re-written and re-developed based on this project and we will roll that out over the coming 12 months to all our events.

I am really proud of the PORTAL team for putting this together, they have worked tirelessly for 5 years on PORTAL and this I believe is the crowning jewel in their cap - and we are so proud that it is DFCON 2013 - a conference that we have long been associated with.

PORTAL have a few surprises up their sleeve as well - don't forget for the first time ever, not only can you watch LIVE but you can watch immediatly ON DEMAND. An amazing feature where within seconds of a lecture finishing it is available for review.

We will have more camera's covering the event than ever before, and for the first time ever all the people at the conference can view LIVE in real time on their smartphones or tablets/laptops online as well and interact with the worldwide audience online during the event itself!

PORTAL along with Diaped, Lasercam and Vasyli Medical have put a huge amount of effort into changing the way this is done for years to come. This is the perfect conference compliment - A huge event with 3000 people in attendance interacting with a world audience online of over 25 countries and tens of thousands of people all together for one common goal - improving the diabetic foot.

Personally im also interested in all the biomechanics and plantar pressure lectures scheduled and being organised. It will have a massive biomechanics and wound care focus as well.

Exciting times. Cannot wait! Wel done PORTAL, Diaped, Lasercam and Vasyli Medical.

I'm from Italy...how much and why I should pay?

Hi Fabio - Italy is not included in the free-zone unfortunately. The free zones this year include Australia, New Zealand, UK, Asia, India. PORTAL has secured the rights to these zones only from the conference organizers. Attendees from all other parts of the world can attend but they pay the normal event fee. To attend the conference in person in LA is around $750USD - then accommodation, airfares and time out of work to attend (if you can even get a ticket because it does sell out) - as you can see, it can be quite a costly affair to attend if you go to L.A. It is an amazing conference to attend in person though if you can make it!

If you cannot possibly get to LA due to time, costs or work then attending online via PORTAL education is the next logical step - you get all the benefits (Full CME points, access to all CME based lectures and the ability to interact and view them again at anytime) without all of the associated detriments - all for half the cost of the event in person - only $445USD online.

PORTAL have had an amazing response to DFCON 2013 online - at the current rate registrations are occurring this will be the single largest medical event in the world during 2013!!!! If you haven't registered yet - I would suggest you all do!

Lots more information can be found on the DFCON 2013 Online homepage in the FAQ section.

Fabio if you have any more questions please feel free to email PORTAL Support: support@portaleducation.com they will be very happy to help.
