Hey guys, Currently i'm a 2nd year student doing a group presentation on "surgical" treatment of verrucae pedis and i was assigned to cover curretage and electrodessication techniques.

I'm currently working from home and access from home to my schools resources are limited (no j.am.pod). I've searched pubmed for articles and have come up with next to nothing.

Does anyone have any links or journal articles pertaining to the proper steps/pros/cons. I have to kill 10 minutes with these 2 topics so actual videos of these technques or anything would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks
    Tony

The following papers relate to blunt dissection of VP but all of them state that subsequent curretage of the lesion is not recommended due to risk of trauma to the dermis and resultant scarring:

Barch K, (1990) Blunt Dissection for the Treatment of Plantar Verrucae; Cutis, Vol 46, pp145-152
McGregor R.R., Wehr G.V. (1974 ) Blunt Dissection of Plantar Verrucae Using a New Instrument. JAPMA, Vol 64 (2), pp92-96
Pringle W.M., Helms D.C., (1973) Treatment of Plantar Warts by Blunt Dissection; Arch Dermatol, Vol 108, pp79-82

These papers are not current or of great quality but I'm sure you have already discovered that there is not a lot of info out there on these techniques. We used to use electrodessication but have moved more towards blunt dissection due to a reduced risk of post op scarring.

    Hope that is helpful.
