Returning from several years overseas,

I am hearing of the latest wonder treatment for fungal/psoriatic nails-

Emtrix
(patented composition consisting of propylene glycol, urea and lactic acid)

Has anyone had clinical experience with this?

(I apologise if this has already been discussed, a search didn t show anything)

This product isn`t available in the UK. If it was, it would no doubt be licensed as a medical device (similar to Excilor®), not a medicinal product as it does not contain concentrations of ingredients strong enough to act as either a fungicide (destroying the dermatophyte) nor a fungistatic (preventing spore reproduction). In fact, propylene glycol (which is the `penetration enhancer`) has been shown to reduce efficacy of antifungal properties when used in conjunction with recognised fungstatics, see here;

I could not locate any published clinical trials or case studies, even though the website claims “clinically proven efficacy.” However, I would assume that it works in a similar way to Excilor, which claims to “penetrate the nail and modify its microenvironment, making it hostile to fungal growth”. The Emtrix website states; “Future fungus and bacteria attacks are prevented through the nail’s microenvironment being altered and the nail surface strengthened.” In other words, neither have a pharmacological effect on the mycosis.


The website declares that it treats "nail psoriasis" in addition to fungus and I find this statement misleading;

Are they claiming to "remove" the underlying cause of psoriatic nails?

Expensive stuff, especially when recommended dose is daily for 3- 6 months....

Hi -was given samples and a research article of this product at a recent conference and trialled it on a few patients with OM and have found it to be highly effective.

 

I have given it to 2 patients and have been disappointed with the results but obviously this is a very small sample
