    Hello

I should imagine there is a thread on this forum somewhere regarding disposable podiatry instruments; but I cannot find one. So, can anyone in private practice recommend a supplier of good value, disposable instrument packs please.

    Many thanks

    Claire

    Hi Claire,

I for one hate waste and cannot get my head around the use of disposables.
Can I ask why you are considering these? Is the cost of sterilising the reason behind considering disposables? And what do you do with them afterwards?
    Cheers

Timesco do a disposable set of instruments. I am out of touch with suppliers in the UK (ex-pat 2010) so unless you buy them direct I do not know where you'd buy them from.

We use the packs on our clients, and on the whole they are ok.

The nippers are good for normal/slight OX nails (they are not so hot for those horrible OX/OG nails - I keep some sterilisable sets for those).
The files are pretty poor quality, I really don't rate them.
The blacks files are good enough quality but a bit too wide in my opinion for getting down those tight little sulci where compact OP sits.
The scalpel handles fine - I have not (to date) had any issues with the grooves, although their shoulders can be a bit high sometimes.

    Good hunting!

    Hi Claire ,

I have been using disposable instruments in my PP for four years. I use routine and surgical packs, I also work one session per week in a surgical unit and we use same at that clinic.

Basically you need to be sure of security of supply and consistency. I have used http://www.disposablemedicalinstruments.co.uk for the entire time and I am very happy with them. When I started I looked at various companies but no other company could give match with cost and reliability.

That said do not be under the illusion that disposable instruments are the same as Sheffield steel, like most things in life you will need to compromise slightly but in my view it's worth it.

    Kind regards,

    Kevin
