    Hello,

Can anyone provide any information re the Doctor of Podiatry (surgical training programme) at the University of Western Australia? Is anyone currently doing this course? Does the course train one to become a registered podiatric surgeon and able to practice independently in Australia? Is it well organised etc...

Any information would be most appreciated.

    Harry,
the UWA offers Doctor of Podiatry which is a research based doctorate, it has a theory component for 1 yr and lst 2 yrs the candidate is requireed to undertake a research project. Doctor of CLinical Podiatry is the surgical pathway. These are offered within the SChool of Surgery of School of Med, UWA.
at present Pod Surgeons donot practice in public hosp so training will be in private hospitals. yes, it is anticipated that graduates from DCP would be registered to practice as POd Surgeons. i say anticipated because it is premature to speculate on how these graduated thrive within the competitive feild of foot surgery.

u can google UWA podiatry to access course descriptors. Prof. Alan Bryant, head of school is very helpful, if u want to direct any Q.

    Good luck

    David
