I am receiving conflicting advice on this. Please, fellow NSW pods, what NSW police (or any other authority checks) are required to work in the public and private sectors? Very many thanks. Rob

I require a federal police check to work in aged care facilities Australia wide.

    ..if that helps.

Since Australian registration is now controlled by AHPRA the standards are the same regardless of state/territory.
    "Criminal history
There are new powers for the Podiatry Board to check the criminal history of registered podiatrists.
All podiatrists will be required, at annual renewal (section 109 of the National Law) and at any time during the registration period (section 130) to advise the Board of any charges for offences punishable by 12 months imprisonment or more, and any convictions or findings of guilt for offences punishable by imprisonment.
Before making a decision about your application for renewal of registration, or at any time during the registration period, the Board may check your criminal history. The Board can do so by obtaining a written report from a police commissioner or an entity in a jurisdiction outside Australia that keeps records about the criminal history of persons in that jurisdiction. It has this power under sections 79 and 135 of the National Law.
The Board’s Criminal history Registration Standard sets out how the Board will assess information about a registered podiatrist or an applicant for registration that has been obtained through a criminal history check."

As far as I know it is a requirement by certain employers. Aged care facilities, community health programs etc would normally ask for one, a private practice may not necessarily "require" it unless they are providing care to certain areas of the community.
