    Dear Pods,
I am at present a third year undergraduate in the midst of his dissertation.
I am reviewing the evidence base for the use of footwear and orthoses to reduce PPP in diabetic pts. I consistently find reference to the use of rocker bottom shoes and modifications to offload the diabetic foot, however I cannot find any strong evidence base for this. Please if any one knows of any papers that could guide me on this topic I would be eternally grateful.
    Thankseverso Jo

Check the cites in my paper above. Peter Cavanagh was involved with some of those.

I think I would have to agree. except that in this case its not that hard to find.

There is a huge amount of literature out there refering to plantar pressure, rocker shoes, orthoses and prostheses that reduce forefoot pressure. It is important that you refine your data searching skills since this is one of the staples of research.

I know there is a lot of literature available as a few years ago I started a project on TMA in Diabetic subjects and found lots of papers on techniques for reducing forefoot pressure that took many many hours of reading.

Besides journals like JAPMA, Gait and Posture, Foot and Ankle International, Journal od Prosthetics and Orthotics, BMJ and specialised internet search engines like Google Scholar, and Pub Med and Wiley and Data Trace and Elsevier and science direct, there are hundreds of UK and international libraries where you can use your Athens account, besides your own library service that will even do searches for you.

Your University web site will likely have a section on refining literature search skills. If not try a search using those key words to find info on literature searches.
    Here's a link or two. http://library.ulster.ac.uk/skills/infoskills/infobrowse.php?expand=m1 - http://www.lc.unsw.edu.au/onlib/litrev.html.

Just so I'm not being to harsh here's a reference to add to the list of others given by Robert (He's far too soft)

Rigid orthoses for the insensitive foot: The rigid relief orthoses. Novick A Birk J et al
    Journal Prosthetics Orthotics 1992 V4 #1 p 31-40

You've got t'internet so use it as a tool to improve your skills.

    All the best Dave Smith:boxing:

Here's an article from the University of Michigan, Mechanical Engineering Dept.
printed in the Journal of Experimental Biology. It is fairly technical but certainly has good mathmatical evidence of the advantages of the rocker bottom sole.

Here is the info: I found the complete article on google. If you can't find it let me know and I will email it to you.
