I first posted this in the "Latest Diabetes Medicine Research & News" forum... but posts there don't appear to show up on the home page (???). Anyway, I thought the following was a bit too "fascinating" (to be hidden away) with regard to new research into Diabetes, hence I posted here also...

Recently read/watched material on Medscape on... "Fascinating Discoveries in Type 2 Diabetes"... & possibly Type 1 also (see 7:55 of video - i.e. interesting research on the conversion of pancreatic alpha cells to beta cells).

Note: you will need to login into Medscape to view material...

    Fascinating research indeed!

  2. Can you copy the article please Matt?

Would you like me to copy (& paste) the whole dialogue on this thread Mark?
Would this be OK to do so? [just wanting to make sure from academic sharing perspective]
You can't login to Medscape Mark?

*** Happy to do so Mark - if appropriate... just that there are some legalist types on this forum who may see a problem with it. Not too sure on the boundaries of such i.e. think I read somewhere (on this forum) that there is a certain % allowed to be copied (with reference) - yet I could have my wires crossed on this one.

  4. I can't get medscape Matt - if there are publishing issues can you send by PM or email?

Just in case there are any legal issues for such on a public forum, I will send you an email.

However, just for the record Mark, when I did attempt to send you an email via this forum the following message comes up...

Hence I sent you a PM... hope that works...

Another development in Diabetes management that may be of interest...

    - Inhaled Insulin: What to Tell Patients (link):
Also from Medscape, hence you will need to login.
    Some points of interest:

In relation to the above post on Inhaled Insulin, more info on Afrezza®... which has recently been approved by the US Food & Drug Administration (FDA)...

Is Inhaled Insulin a 'Game Changer'?

Also from Medscape, hence you will need to login.

The "Pros" seem to be more significant (outweigh) than the "Cons" on this product... thus far... hence Afrezza could well be a true game changer in diabetes management (particularly as far as big pharma is concerned).

But, there are other alternatives which could have far greater holistic benefits... I am a strong believer in positive/healthy lifestyle choices (i.e. plant based diet & regular exercise) when it comes to Type 2 management... certainly in prevention (particularly if there is a family history) & also in reversing Type 2 Diabetes... "genes are not destiny"...

I highly respect the views of Dr Neal Barnard & his work/research i.e. ...

I sometimes wonder whether the medication of lifestyle related diseases (i.e. Type 2 Diabetes, heart disease) contributes to making us humans more complacent (& ignorant) on the potential far greater benefits of more optimal healthy lifestyle choices - yes, I know... requires effort (generating a sweat), change in dietary desires (eradicating processed foods & animal products) & thus travelling beyond one's comfort zone (which was the likely cause of the problems in the first place). Controversial & hard to stomach for some... but the science is proving the case time & time again.

This is an interesting study... something out from left field (I initially thought ):

Being Short May Be Linked With a Higher Diabetes Risk in Men:
