This may well have already been mentioned but I felt the urge to share.

Of the many times I view Podiatry arena I always ponder as to what the non-English speaking discussions were about.

For anyone who has yet to try the translation service on Pod' Arena please do so as you are missing out on valuable discussions.

If I am the last person on planet earth to realise this please disregard this post.

Hi All

Usually Not English Spoken natives are not used to have someone interested in their languages (or at least conversations in their one language, i e: Hollywood movies usually "picture" foreigners speaking between them English with accent) , so it was with surprise that I saw this post from twirly.

The European Union its recommending for their citizens to learn and speak at least two additional languages apart from their mother tongue.

It is with shame that I admit I only speak English.

I am delighted that (thanks to Craig et al {& Google}) I can also understand the other languages used on the Arena.

Indeed I think it to be an excellant idea if European Union countries encourage learning other languages.

What a wonderful opportunity it would be if the multilingual education bagan at pre-school.

Young minds appear to absorb knowledge so much more easily than older ones.

That said I will again be ever grateful to Craig & Google for the opportunity to participate more fully on the forum as I am sure you would agree, the discussions from other countries are too very educational & informative.

This translation function of Podiatry Arena is another amazing piece of technology, as far as I'm concerned. Since I am only fluent in one language, I use the translation function to read the excellent postings of the Spanish biomechanics contributors, since there are often very good discussions there. One of the main contributors on that forum, Javier Pascual Huerta, and his colleague Juan Manuel Ropa Moreno, and I will be having a paper published in JAPMA hopefully within the coming year on an orthosis study of ours. These Spanish podiatrists are very impressive in their knowledge and it is exciting for me to see such enthusiasm for biomechanics with these very intelligent individuals.

It would be nice if I could write something in English and then have it translated by Google to coherent Spanish to contribute to their Spanish language forums. However, as Craig said, the grammar function of the software is not very good so the translation would probably be too confusing to be of any use to those following along. Maybe, someday, the translations will improve so that we can all speak to each other fluently, regardless of the language.

 

I have a little site and forum myself but I cant help being admired with the Admin's work in this forum, its truly amazing, not only the forum "per si" but also the uncountable Ad-ons and features.
