Foot core strengthening in mainstream press.

    Foot core strengthening is getting a lot of press these days and an interesting and largely very useful article has just been published in the New York Times.

    The article is more up to date than the blog sites of many health care professionals I have seen, especially with regard to focusing on exercises which involve keeping the toes straight and moving them around the MTPJs .

    The author has not included toe curling activities since these do not encourage proper function ( even on soft sandy substrates, the toes do not curl for grip). ,

    "Incorporating foot and toe exercises into your routine long before you develop shin splints or plantar fasciitis can help prevent those injuries and improve how you walk, especially as you age.
    “Toe weakness is the single biggest predictor of falls when we get older,” Dr. Conley said.
