I have a buddy, an osteopath, who's been doing prolotherapy (intraarticular dextrose/bacteriostatic water) injections into symptomatic unstable second mtp-joints, as well as in other joints. He's done this for 15 years and lots of patients report success. The shot sets up a somewhat nasty inflammatory response in the joint. After one to six shots, the inflammation so scars the joint that it loses sufficient instability to become asymptomatic, in many cases.

There are dietary and medication and activity caveats accompanying the regime, which can last up to 12 weeks.

I'm not talking about cortisone or alcohol, I'm talking about a diluted sugar solution, intraarticular.

Does anyone out there do this or something similar ?
