Hi. I am new to this Arena. I am currently a qualified Teacher of French in UK (my career for the past 10 years). I am wanting to career-change and am seriously considering Podiatry / Chiropody. I am therefore considering the 3 year undergraduate degree in Podiatry in UK. I would love to live and work in France in the not too distant future. I am a fluent French speaker. Can a UK trained Podiatrist work in France?
    Thanks for your advice.

I would also like to know as we are thinking of going to live in France. Most of my family live there but I would like to continue practising part time.

    Hi Melbel,

Podiatrist trained in UK will have no problem to have the right to work in France.
I can help you for the procedures to follow to obtain the possibility to work.
But it's important to know that in France most of the podiatrists work in private practice (98%), there are nearly no jobs at hospital for them.

If you are really interested, you can ask me more question;)

You need to be registered to the Ordre National des Podologues

    this is the website:

    Hi
I lived in France for a couple of years and found it impossible to find work as a british Podiatrist. I suspect I could have set up a private practice amongst the ex-pat community though. Being a fluent french speaker will certainly help you. The reality is that healthcare is popular so the french are not short of Podologues and as Frederic said they are mainly in private practice. Best wishes and good luck for your endeavour in beautiful France.

    Hi Akibs
Did you try private practice, says as an associate? and if so, did you find that there was a reluctance to take you on or was this not what you were looking for? Would it be possible do you think to set up your own private practice?

Hi I have been trying to get my registration to work as a podiatrist in France. It has been a ridiculously difficult challenge and I have now reached the point where I need even more help. I have submitted all my info to the DRJSCS in Lyon but am still being refused as my degree from Salford doesn't match up with the hours training for a French Diplome Podologie. Can anyone help - when was the uk podiatry degree agreed as equivalent to the french one? and does the Ordre Nationale des Podologues accept the degree to be able to register with them?
    Many thanks RJB

    Hi Jilly
This is timely! I'm living in France and just about to start the process of registering with the DRJSCS, so I can open a private practice. I'm afraid I can't offer you any assistance apart from consulting with the Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists. I did speak to them about working in France and they seemed determined that nothing should stop a member doing that. Can I private message you as I think we may be going through the process at the same time?

    Hi Arena

Ive been absent far too long from your embrace !

On re-reading this post, and seeing that no-one has written about this subject since March 2012 - Im wondering whether ANYONE has actually managed to work in France as a Podiatrist ? When I say anyone - I mean UK qualified Pods using their Pod degree? I know there was talk that if you wanted to work in France one had to be accepted on to a Register (?) BEFORE Brexit or our qualifications may/will not then be recognised..... but at the time I wasn't sure whether I wanted to work in France as a Pod.

Now (of course!) we find that our insurance does NOT now cover us to work abroad! Not France and (presumably?) not anywhere in the EU? Please correct me if Im wrong? I'd love to hear from anyone that has managed to wade through all the red tape and bureaucracy (and has Insurance too!) and is indeed working in France as a Pod or Podologue?

    Thank you in anticipation.

    With kind regards

    Linda Russell
