My name is Will. This is my first post in the forums, so I just wanted to say hi. I am a DPM in the great state of Texas and a firm believer in ESWT Therapy for the fact that I see tons of a patients each month with chronic plantar faciitis. I look forward to talking with everyone! :)

    G'Day Will,
Good to see another Podiatrist using ESWT. I am a Podiatrist in Wollongong NSW, Australia. I have been using ESWT since 2002.
I have used ESWT for Plantar Fasciitis, Golfers and Tennis elbow, and shoulder spurs.

    Hi Will,

The only time I visited the States our tour guide was very informative & gave us information on current legislation to help us on our holiday. One of his pieces of information included the following.

Am guessing you Texans are a mighty non-littering bunch o'folks. ;)

    Thank you for joining.

    Many regards,

:welcome: Will good to have you on board.
Don interested to know how you sell/charge your services for upper body treatment?
    No concerns with insurance etc?
Worked solely as a SWT for approx 6/12.
Interesting we got much better results with the elbow than with p.f.
perhpas we should put any further discussion into another forum where those who do not read intro's can join in;)

    Enjoy Will,

    Cheers

    Heather,
    Sorry for not getting back.

I have a flat rate whether it is for upper or lower body. $700.00 for the treatment
I am a Podiatrist first. I have coverage from Guild

The reason for the better results for elbows is simple. We don't walk on our hand as a rule and women (sorry) prefer crushed feet to happy feet. You should be almost 100% with elbows and 85% feet. My machine is the Dornier EPOS Ultra. Big puppy

There has been debate since 2004, loads of for and agains. It is still controversial. Academia Pods want Double blind research.

With ESWT the Patient gets 2,000 for there session, up to 3 sessions. The levels increase from level 1 to level 9. 1,500 mJ/mm2 is deemed a treatment success with at least a 50% reduction in pain levels.

At what level do they plan for a plesebo. The analogy is If you can feel it you are getting a treatment.

What happens at the end of three months when the poor B's who were the control group, still in pain who have not had a proper treatment dosage are told that they have had no beneficial treatment. They were the guineapigs for the betterment of a Group A or Group B.

I would be really P****d off just so Bell Curve went in the right direction.

What happens if 1 person in Group A has a good result but was not treated and at 6 months gets hit by a bus and sore foot again. How will that affect the results.

Or the person in Group B have no success until 6 months due to an illness that keeps them in hospital.

I live in the real world and do not have the luxury of doing uni based research. I can only go on what the manufacturers recommend. If you what to do studies then you must use the equipment the way the manufacturers recommend and not add or delete or stray from their protcols. 1. You negate warranty on the machine, 2. You are not providing the patient with best practice. 3. What company would give a machine to a uni knowing that it was not been used the right way.

At the end of the day patient feedback is more important to the running of your daily practice.

    I MAKE NO APLOGIES

    Merry Christmas
    Don Scott
