hi i am a 3rd year pod.i am giving a presentation on instrument choice of podiatrists and need feedback as to what pods are using and why.
sort of things like mandril and burring -friend or foe
scalpel blade sizes and relevant procedures
if you could only use 3 instruments what would they be and why
    quirky and bizarre instrument usage
Any sort of related feedback would be much appreciated

As no-one has answered, may I start you off?

My packets contain 4 pieces :- 1. a pair of cantilever nippers (to prevent RSI, I did use the ordinary ones but now favour those that give me less strain); 2. a scalpel handle with a no 15 blade (more control and able to use it for everything from heavy callus to clearing out the sulcus and shaping nails as in IGTN's); 3. a nail file (for obvious reasons) and 4. a double ended blacks file (fine and medium head).

I also use a bur for OG and OX nails, but rarely a mandril or moore's disc - this I must add is a personal choice.

In addition to this, my instrument draw includes those for nail surgery and injection therapies, if you want to know what I have for these, please let me know and I can expand.

    Hi,

My instrument pack contains nail clippers, blacks file ( single end, angled, fine cut), nail file, scalpel handle with 15 blade, and I love my double ended swan neck excavator - which I have noticed not many other podiatrists use. I find it really useful for very tight sulcus work.

I do use a ruby burr regularly and a mandril with moores disk.

That's my every day pack. If you want surgery pack I am happy to send details.

    Regards,

    Susan

    My basic pack:
1 pair clippers - double barrel spring
1 Blacks file - straight fine head
    1 burr
    1 scalpel handle.

I use #15 blades for corns & delicate stuff & #10's for heavy thick callus.
I also use mandril & Moore's discs - sand medium

    Nail surgery pack:
    1 pair Thwaites clippers
    1 elevator/spatula
    1 forceps
    1 beaver blade scalpel handle
    2 galley pots
(i'm sure i'm forgetting something?? but that's basically it)

I also individually bag up things like:
    smaller clippers / tissue nippers
    sterile dressing packs with balls/gauze/buds

    The thing I forgot:
in my nail surgery pack I have a small curette for applying phenol - better technique than orange sticks that I picked up on in here.

#20 blades !! They work much better than #10 blades (IMHO)

Why have separate clippers. Are they not all sterilised in the same manner?

    Brevis,
They are in a separate package so that I don't have to open another complete packaged set when all I need is a pair of clippers.
    Hope that makes sense?
