    Hi everyone,

I need to present a talk (approx. 1 hr) to a bunch of endocrine docs. In fact, my colleague had already presented quite a number of topics such as hyperbaric oxygen therapy, PAD, Biomechanics in relation to diabetic foot, woundcare management.

I would really appreciate if anyone could suggest any topics (must be related to diabetes) that would be a great help!:sinking:

    Cheerios,

What about the role of zinc in wound healing and the frequency of zinc deficiency in Australia and especially in diabetics

    Hi Perrypod,

Would you please elaborate more on the zince and vit c in the role of wound healing?
Are they somekind of wound products or nutrition issues?

    Cheerios.;)

Nutritional issues. For example, let's just briefly look at lack of vitamin c. We have known for many years that lack of vitamin c prevents and or delays healing, so vitamin c status is important in the general populace. What really amazes me is that diet is not always routinely considered before sugery. Even if you are doing just a minor procedure, it's good to check that, inter alia, the patient is eating a well balanced healthy diet. This is even more important in Diabetics, even if their glucose levels are well controlled, as any wounds may be sluggish to heal. This should be of interest to all endocrinologists.

    Hi Colin,
thanks for youyr reply. I;ll see what I can do on the topic as suggested. Sounds like a dietician will be a better choice of professional to give such a talk though,

Hi Miss Gangrene, if you serach the tags I think you will find info on Vit c I know Margaret Taylor who has a nutrition/doc/prolotherapist background has discussed this before.
Do not forget basics with anyone outside podiatry.
Even how and why and what we do primary care( from nail eduction/redefinition, debridement verse enucleation, offloading/ reduction of friction and pressure/what constitutes good footwear )) and its roll in prevention I have found to be a mystery to many.
congrats and good luck, just remember you will know more than they will when it comes to feet.:))

    Cheers
