Hello to every one. I had no idea there were so many podiatrists out there!

My name is kerry and I work for Bournemouth and poole PCT. Special interest is diabetes for my sins!

I have to provide an interesting and informative talk to a bunch of rather disruptive 70 - 80 year olds on Falls prevention.

Does any one have any ideas where i might find information on this subject??

  2. Get on Naylor. As you know, I have no idea how to keep an audience interested, nor a great deal about preventing falls- for that you need to talk to Hylton Menz- he rules the gerontology forum- post your wants there and search the forum. Stuff on falls already there. It is nice to have you here though.:drinks

    Hi kerry
Within about 6 months of qualifying i was asked to do a talk to a similar crowd, I was really nervous but went well (even stayed for bingo) and helped me in future, presentations etc.
I know that it helps if you can be as interactive as poss, get them involved! also, funny little factlets or quips are always amusing
As for falls prevention, dont know much except that footwear and painful feet can be a factor...durr...obvious, sorry....
    :morning:

  6. Hi Kerry

I did a similar talk to the WI, found a very interesting story by a council in Wales who gave all their older people a new pair of slippers. Hip replacements from falls went down by 25% or a similar stat. Look up the initiative on Google it is a great story, 'sloppy slippers' is a good core subject you could do a quick poll on; how long each person has had theirs, to open the debate. They loved gory pictures too!

    Regards

    Stephanie
