How do you sharpen your instruments?

I am a student still, (passed my halfway exams...so happy) but up until now we have only practiced on each other with brand new instruments. Last week I did a placement in the hospital clinic....How dull were the instruments! Horrible.
When I was a wannabe dental hygienist, I learnt how to sharpen my Graceys, I am wondering if anybody has any advice on sharpening Podiatry instruments? Carole in Sydney

I have a sharpening service in Australia and we speialise in sharpening and repair of podiatry instruments .We have even developed a method of resharpening blacks files at a reasonable price.As well as sharpening we can weld cracks,loosen tight instruments,tighten loose instruments,replace broken screws and springs etc ,we call it remanufacturing.We can realign forceps and straighten bent shafts on burrs.We also put new tungsten jaws on needle holders and sharpen all types of scissors down to micro scissors.In other words there is not a lot in the way of sharpening or repairs that we can not do economically.We are happy to give a quote before we commence the work.We are now selling instruments etc at competitive prices.Contact Prosharp.com.We have hundreds of satisfied customers.I hope this helps with any queries
