There is one randomised controlled trial, that I know of, looking at homeopathic remedies for plantar fasciitis:

Clark, J. and A. Percivall (2000). "A preliminary investigation into the effectiveness of the homeopathic remedy, Ruta Graveolens in the treatment of pain in plantar fasciitis." British Journal of Podiatry 3(3): 81-85.

The authors concluded that Ruta Graveolens was more effective at reducing pain than the placebo.

    Hope that helps.

    Joel.

I posted this rather obscure post to see if anyone else on this site has success with homoeopathic remedies in treatment programs, whether used alone or in conjunction with other treatments for heel pain and plantar fasciitis.
I recently saw a man aged 42, who came to see me initially for a fungal infection. During the history taking he said that he had heel pain for the past 7 years, treatment had included 4 steroid injections, bespoke orthotics and a night splint. These treatments had not improved the condition.
On the first appointment i applied Khans Bone Mass, in a heel pad and in a valgus pad.
At the second appointment there was a 10% improvement,so i reapplied the bone mass once again and also gave a Ruta 30c.
Third appointment some major improvement was noted so Bone Mass was reapplied and a 6c was given twice daily for 5 days.
Last appointment 99% improvement, Bone Mass reapplied.
The patient now has Ruta 30c at home and has been instructed to take one or two remedies as and when symptoms reappear.
Ruta Grav. was used due to its affinity with ligaments and periosteal attachments.

    Homoeopathy for heel pain

    Dear Tony,

It's not an obscure posting! The marigold bone mass and Ruta 6c or 30c are my first line treatment. What an admission!!
The results are excellent. I apply the Bone mass to the anterior attachment of the pl fascia,in a holed fleecy web oval or 2mm felt oval as well as the painful heel spot. Don't forget to tell the pt to moisten the padding. If it dries out the marigold paste stops working. So far all my heel pain pts bar 2 have responded to this treatment. One was grosslly overwt, the other was given an AOL in addition to the homoeopathic treatment. Try the bone paste on bursitis and capsulitis..........I don't know how I survived my first 20 years in PP without it!!

    Have fun.

Dear Alex, i knew that if anyone were to reply it would be you. Thank-you for the wonderful presentation at the London Conference 2003. Through this i became aware of the LFHom, this has opened up a whole new box of safe and effective treatments, i wonder how i ever survived the last 18 years.
