Hello. I haven't visited since April 2013, sorry. After giving a talk about podiatry to a group of 13/14 yr olds today I was asked by another speaker (from NHS careers) why I was not practicing still. During the talk I asked myself the same question! My question to the esteemed community here I would appreciate thoughts on returning to podiatry in the UK and the availability of posts in the Southampton/Portsmouth area. Tanks in advance and enjoying being back;)

I can't help with the posts in Portsmouth/ Southampton but my 'returning' experience was more difficult than I imagined. The work is just the same and in no time at all, my speed was back, but the process of finding a mentor was very laborious.

It is understandable that clinicians are under pressure from all angles and that taking on a 'returner' is perceived as another burden, but sometimes we all need a helping hand and, I for one, would always like to think I would help a fellow professional.

I hope you don't have the same response from your local NHS clinic as I did, " Why should I let you come here to regain your qualification, just so that you can go and earn pots of money privately!" Hmm, still waiting to find those pots and was I stopping her from doing so?"

After about 6 months of trying to find support in my local area, a private podiatrist very kindly gave me the guidance I needed and I'm very happy to be able to practise again.

I sincerely wish you luck, Wendy.

    Hey Wendy,

I don`t have any posts to fill, as such, but you know you`re always welcome to come and spend time at my clinic to refresh (maybe requiring a locum quite frequently, too). Much busier now I`m in the High Street :drinks
