    Hello,

I did read somewhere that some Ballet companies in the states have podiatrist working for them. Just trying to establish if there is any truth to this as it would be my dream job.

    Thanks,
    Julia

I can't speak for the USA but years ago I was briefly retained as pod to the Birmingham Royal Ballet here in the UK, and I believe that a colleague is still involved. I must admit that I found it somewhat unfulfilling because the company did not want correction carried out - they pay them and don't want to lose their services for any length of time! The dancers themselves are professionals and 'nuts'. They will always dance through pain and that means that what we can offer is limited mainly to silicone devices etc. However, that may just be me having my glass always half empty and if you're really interested, I suggest that you contact the physician and physio attached to the company (the physio contacted me since I treated one of the dancers privately). I read up on the basics of ballet - the major positions etc. so that I could 'speak the language' and related the dancers to sports people which seemed to go down well. It's a great lesson in anatomy since they're all superb physical specimens and are tremendously objective about their bodies and pathology.

Good luck and please post here if you get a position.

    Hello,

Thanks very much I am a long way off as I am just in the process of enrolling in Podiatry school but am a huge ballet fan. It would be my dream job for a few years or so as there are many other areas of podiatry that I am interested in but happy to know that it is a possibility.
