    Hi,

I am a qualified and registered podiatrist from New Zealand. I studied and graduated at AUT University in Auckland New Zealand. I completed my studies in 2009 and have been working in the podiatry field doing locum work whilst setting up my own company.
My partner and I are looking to move to the UK and I would like to know if I qualify to get an HPC.

Has anyone from AUT gone through this process?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Dear Poster

Up until September 2009, Graduate from Australia and NZ were eligible for recongnition of registration by the HPC as the degree syllabus was transferable.

The HPC via the priovy council has since that time changesd it requirements, which menas that while your degree is considered of equal academic value, and that you also hold an LA licence, you do not hold a POMs (prescription only medicines) licence / certficate. The POMs certificate has been an integral part of the UK degree progrmamme now for almost a decade and the HPC wished to ensure that forgein nationals had a the same level of basic registration entitlemtns as UK graduates. As a result you would not currently be eligibel for UK registartion.

    However...

Do not panic! you can obtain a POMs certificate by sitting a post garduate course which when obtained would allow you to seek HPC registartion.

The courses are run by a number of institutions and these are lsited on the HPC website http://www.hpc-uk.org/aboutregistration/medicinesandprescribing/

please note you need the POM course NOT supplementary prescribing.

currently courses are run by podiatry schools at university of brighton, university of slaford and Queen Margaret University Edinburgh.

You could also contact the Society of Podiatrists and speak with the education officer and explain your situation, they may well able to assit you in finding a course. www.feetforlife.org

I hope this is useful to you and best of luck

Im australian and i was able to register with HPC. However it did take 6 months and they asked for a very very very detailed break down on what was covered in pharmacology. My lecture wrote them and stated everything we covered including LA's. You should be fine to register. Good luck :)

    Hi

The Aussies are beating us at swimming but we can always thrash them (and anybody else) at bureaucracy. Just try to be a bit laid back, put up with the nonsense and you'll get there.

    All the best

    Bill

PS, with the exception of Monteith Black, we've also got the best beer, so you'll enjoy yourself
