"Collapsed" navicular?

    Dear Podiatrists,

Officially this is my first post on Podiatry Arena (albeit I did write an introduction)

I am a current Podiatry student at La Trobe university, and I also work in an athletic shoe store part-time.

This afternoon a customer entered the store who had been diagnosed with a ‘collapsed navicular’ of one foot by a local podiatrist, and they were subsequently told that nothing could be done about it (I find this hard to believe?)

to the customers best memory, they had no previous injury to the foot or systemic illness (the foot looked a bit like charcots neuroarthropathy without the inflamed appearance)

I had never heard of this condition (apologies to my lecturers if they have discussed this in the past, I must have been ‘sick’ :D )

Does anyone know much about this condition and/or have any links for it?

I’ve had a hunt through my notes/books at home as well as on the net, and have only found bits and pieces, so i thought podiatry arena would be a good resource.

Thanks everyone and happy easter !

My guess is Mueller-Weiss Syndrome. Hope this helps.

I would be careful about jumping to a conclusion re "collapsed" navicular. It could have been nothing more than a very severely pronated foot, maybe without the windlass working. It could have been that the podiatrist just made a comment about the navicular being collapsed (which is what happens when a foot pronates).
