    Hi Sarah,
Are you hoping to go to Salford Uni? I graduated last year from Salford, but prior to that did the Health access course at a south manchester college. During this course we were advised to get some work experience in our chosen career path. I went to the local NHS podiatry clinic and spoke to a lovely pod there, explained that i was hoping to go to Uni etc and she arranged for me to sit in on some routine clinics, shadow a pod at the local hospital and also spend some time at a biomechanics lab (also tried to arrange some nail surgery but it clashed with my timetable).
It was an invaluable experience and also helped at the uni interview! In my final year i was posted back at the orthotics lab for some of my placement which was fantastic to see everyone again and actually know where the metatarsals are!!
So I would suggest contacting your local clinic and see where it takes you! Good Luck!

    Hi Sarah,
Yes starting wage is band 5 as fishpod says. I've started private (coming up six months) and just starting to turn a profit so takes a while as outgoings quite high to begin with but you do have the added bonus of being your own boss!
I could pm you the NHS clinics that arranged my shadowing and you could try contacting them if that helps. They were very accommodating.

Hi Clod that would be a great help and good luck with being your own boss. I was self employed for five years with a costume jewellery business that just drove me mad in the end, damn recession and people not paying there bills. I as clearly in the wrong business.
