Podiatry Journals????? Which one is essentail??

Hi all,

I was thinking about subscribing to a podiatry journal but have no idea which one would be considered the best to keep up to date with new research (in all fields).

Is the ONE journal that most of you can't live without? Or would i be better off subscribing to several? If so which one or which ones would be best to subscribe to?

Foot doc,

I published a paper a few years back using citation analysis as a way of assessing foot and ankle (and other relevant) journals. I've attached it to this post - might be useful.

Having said that, I don't think you can really pick a single journal. Depending on your interests, it's probably best develop a search strategy on PubMed to seek out papers of interest across multiple journals and then try and track them down. Unfortunately, this could prove to be quite costly, as there's only two free, open access foot journals (Journal of Foot and Ankle Research and Foot and Ankle Journal ), and only a few relevant journals that provide free access to older papers through PubMed Central.

I do, of course, have a conflict of interest, being the Australian Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Foot and Ankle Research. However, there are very good arguments as to why all medical research should be freely available, and the open access model is definitely gathering momentum.

Thank you for the informative post. I read your paper and i must say it was very helpful. After reading it i came to the conclusion that perhaps the American Journal of the Podiatry medical Association (for a general podiatrist in Australia) is most appropriate. Is this considered a core journal?
Would you agree with this?
Foot and ankle International seems to focus more on foot and ankle surgery......and im an general podiatrist working in Australia.

I have had a continuous subscription to the Journal of Foot & Ankle since its inception in 1979. I was a podiatric surgical resident at the time and when I SUBSCRIBED I was given the first year free of charge. I was aware that the Editor Mehl Jahss M.D. from the Hospital for Joint Diseases was the head of the Foot & Ankle department and was "NOT FOND OF PODIATRISTS"and I knew that I was afforded this journal by error.
BUT I have continued to purchase this journal and have published in this journal and in my opinion have allways found this publication to be the premeir pier revued publication for cutting edge Foot & Ankle [International] upto the minute pathology and therapy either surgical or conservative.

Many years ago, an associate editor for this journal invited a physical therapist who is widely published in podiatry journals to join the editoriol Board of Foot & Ankle on the condition that they no longer submit publications to Podiatry journals! Needless-to-say the intregrity of the physical therapist meant they formally complained to the Journal's editor and promptly received an apology ... just shows you how petty and silly these people were.
