    Hello,

I was just wondering if anyone would be able to put forward which appointment system they use?

I am in private practise in the UK and as I'm expanding my practise I'm thinking of changing my system.

As they're not cheap I just thought if anyone had any good or bad points for the system they currently used that would be great in helping me to make a decision, instead of the sales people pushing it all!

    Thankyou

I, and others, use practice pal which works well for me and is very customisable. David Smith(I think )posted about it on one of the other practice management software threads which is why I started using it.
There are plenty of other threads about on it on here so you'll get a good answer from them. If you want to speak to me about practice pal, PM me and i'll give you my phone number to have a chat. Can also speak about Podware pro as had that previously. It's very good value for money if your budget is tight

    Regards,

    Robin

    Hi Jenni

The former company I was in partnership with used PPS from Rushcliff.com for many years successfully - I signed up with them under my own licence a few months back so I could get a head start with filling in my database before I went down my own self-employed career path.

I did look at practice pal but it didn't offer anything that private practice software couldn't already do in terms of what I want to use it for (appointments, accounts, reporting and mail merge purposes via e-mail and text message) and they are online only (which costs a little more than PPS' Pro online version anyway)

Your best bet is to contact a few people and try out their demo's and see how you get on with them. It's all about how the software feels along with its abilities for me.

Thanks for the replies. Sorry for my delay in responding.

I've been having a look at PPS and it seems good, lots of colours which my receptionist seems to like! Terry have you any experience with the mobile aspect of it as ideally I would like to have the diary available on my smartphone so I can book patients in whilst on doms too?

I hadn't heard of Practise Pal before so I'll have a look there also.

Hi Jenni - Yes I currently use it as although it's useful for me, I'm weighing up the pro's and con's on deciding if I'm going to eventually look down the route of allowing a call handling company to use it and make the appointment bookings etc for me as well.

Rushcliff call their extra add-on "PPS Remote", hang on will find a link...

Hmm this is the only thing I could find on it at the minute.

I have an iPad which I use it on, but I'm also looking at a new phone to use it with as well. The Samsung Galaxy S looks nice, and it Remote responds very quickly when I'm using the iPad out and about via the internet (3G?)

Anyway hope that is of some use to you!

I downloaded podware4, but it would not let me open the file, just kept taking me round in circles. Now, I know I'm a bit of a technophobe, but my boyfriend who works with computers could not do it either, very frustrating!:bang:

I signed up to the online version of PPS from Rushcliff about a month ago and am reasonably impressed so far. I can access and amend patient records from any PC as well as my iphone and ipad. A feature I particularly like is the ability to design custom forms and I am gradually adapting my biomech, nail surgery and diabetic assessment forms etc to the system. For existing patient (paper) notes I am scanning them in and attaching them electronically. It's really nice to have everything available in a centrally accessible location and makes patient notes entry less of a chore! Cloud computing is the way ahead in my humble opinion ;)

    Regards,

    Tim

First, my disclaimer... I am the founder of Cliniko, so you know my bias.

I absolutely agree cloud computing is the way ahead, and please do check out http://www.cliniko.com if you are considering a web-based option.

Also, Suzanne, you mentioned you had trouble downloading a system you wanted to try, if you do give Cliniko a go and need any help, just send us through an email to our support and we will be happy to guide you via email or phone if preferred.

I also use PracticePal and like it as everything is web-based, I use it from my ipad. When I looked at pps, it seemed that I could only access some of the features in a real browser window. I also worked them out to be way more expensive than PracticePal. Tim, I agree about the benefit of the clinic form designer as I have used that feature in PracticePal and it makes life so much easier once they've been set-up! Would definitely recommend Jenni if you're still looking.

Can't speak of specific uk software options, but I am about to sign up with a software package designed mainly for GP in Australia rather than the most popular allied health one in Australia. You want a program that is intuitive, is not likely to be run a company that is economically marginal which may go bust, GP programs will mean there is a greater pool of trained up people when you advertise for admin staff. Also what is the cost for users, some charge per each user others per consulting room which is more effective if you have multiple people working only a day or two per week out of the one room.
