Counterfeit running shoes?

I recall sitting through a rather troubling award-winning BBC documentary ("Bad Medicine") on the rise of counterfeit drugs and medication (along with fashion accessories etc) across the world. The source was deemed to be the powerhouse of manufacturing plants in China and other developing nations, where countereit drugs were being produced to a standard that fooled most pharmacists, but were causing real harm as they were being sold in western retail outlets as being "authentic".

Of late I have noticed, from one particular sports shoe retailer, a questionable change in the quality of what I use to consider quite high-end running footwear models. In short, the shoes seem 'dodgy' and little better than many cheap department store models. I have little evidence other than a "hunch" something is suspicious.

Has anyone else encountered this situation in recent years?

If fake Gucci and Louis Vuitton products, let along insulin and Viagra, are on the market in 'reputable' western retail outlets - who's to say the same can't occur for desirable high-end footwear?

Why don't you take them to Cordwainers College? The shoemaking masters there would be able to tell the difference. Also, if they are sold by 1 shop, get the Company to investigate the purchasing patterns. The tax office would probly be interested too.
