    Dear Colleagues,

The AMA has written a factually untrue and defamatory article about Australian podiatric surgeons. It is time we stood up to this hard.

Please show your support by flooding the 'comments' section with support for your surgical colleagues. we need you! The article has been published on the 'AusDoc' website and the 'Australian Doctor' facebook page (I would post URL but my Podiatry arena account does not allow it).

    All the best,

Yes, also ban tree surgeons from using the title 'Surgeon'.

Seriously, this kind of maligned thinking indicates a worringly low sense of self esteem from those afflicted in this way. If you practice surgery, you are a surgeon. It is irrelevant what organization provided the basic training. In the UK, for the longest time some possessed faction of the orthopedic 'sheep' bleated about the fact that Podiatric Surgeon's are not 'real doctors'- whatever that meant: I used to interpert this to mean that I did not ever kill a patient.

In the US the Podiatrist is required to satisfy only the State Law governing scope of practice. The Podiatrist is not required to placate another professional group who will have vested interests in reducing the competition from the market. The malintent to damage another profession, in this way, is barely concealed as 'concern' for public safety. Shame on those charlatans. I urge those incined to travel that rocky path to first worry about, and set in order, their own house.

And then mind your own business.
