    Hi Guys,

I’m new to the forum but I’ve seen something on TV and would like to know the podiatrists opinion on it!

I’ve been watching GPs behind closed doors and they regularly have clinics where the GPs are performing nail surgery.

With the amount of pressure the NHS is under, I do wonder why GPs are performing the tasks of podiatrists? Surely it would be more cost effective to either use a podiatrist for these clinics, or refer to one who needs the clientele?

    Thoughts?

Exactly...tax payers are paying for a GP to gain these skills then take time out of regular GP activities to perform a job that many podiatrists out there are capable of doing. It doesn’t make sense to me. I’m not a podiatrist but I feel there should be more pressure from the profession to make sure skills are being utilised.

You wouldn’t see a GP doing a scale and polish so why train to perform the task of a profession that is saturated with qualified clinicians?
