Put the following in order of LEAST PROBABILITY OF OCCURRING (least likely to occur) to MOST PROBABILITY OF OCCURRING (most likely to occur)
For the BOWLING and GOLF assume an average player of average skill (approximates).

    1. Being dealt a ROYAL FLUSH

    2. Being Struck by lightening

    3. Getting a Hole-in One

    4. Dying in a auto accident

    5. Having a meteor hit your house

    6. Winning the Power Ball Lottery Jack pot

    7. Bowling a 300 game

    8. Dying from being hit by a falling airplane part

I have no idea on this one, but this does remind me of a story in Time magazine many years ago, that showed you were more likely to be shot by your spouse than die in a plane crash.

    Hi Steve,

I hope random guessing is allowed.

    My complete guesses would be:

    1) (least likely) winning the lottery.

    2) meteor hitting the house.

    3) Dealt royal flush.

    4) Hole in one.

    5) struck by lightening.

    6) Falling airplane parts

7)Bowling 300 game (whatever that may be!)

    8) Dying in a car crash.

    As I said just guessing.

    Anyone else?

    Regards as always, ;)

    Hey Twirly......
a little too early to give all the answers, but I'll tell you this..............if you're sitting in your house waiting for a meteor to hit you, you'll be there for a VERY LONG TIME!

    #8 - probability of a meteor hitting your house ..... 182,138,880,000,000:1

Thats me = twirly (too early) just keen I guess ;)

So I really could win the lottery then?

I'll sit in my house & if no outer space rocks rain down I might be in the money.

I am going to sit very still & just watch for a while.

    On my best behaviour.

  7. My kinda quiz.:D

    Least likely

Having a meteor hit your house

Dying from being hit by a falling airplane part

Winning the Power Ball Lottery Jack pot

    Being dealt a ROYAL FLUSH

    Getting a Hole-in One

    Being Struck by lightening

    Bowling a 300 game

    Dying in a auto accident

    Most likely.

Although the chances of getting a royal flush depend rather on what flavour poker you are playing;) I've had a straight flush, never a royal flush.

    Regards
    Robert

there is a far greater chance of a meteor hitting my house than there is of me ever setting foot on a golf course let alone getting a hole in one :D:pigs:

Hi Andy......you may be correct about that, but it assumes a player of average skill!

OK, I'll tell you these two for now.

LEAST LIKELY - Meteor hitting your house (182,138,880,000,0200:1
MOST LIKELY - getting that hole in one (approx 5,000:1)

    Does that help?

    Robert did very well...
The probability that I'll give the rest of the answers tomorrow is 3:1 haha

  13. Would that be the compound bayeristic probability based on the odds of you being on the forum AND the odds of you giving the answers, or the probability of you giving the answers IF you are on the forum. ;)

    Is it hell!
    I demand i recount!!!! :D;)

Personally my odds need calculated bearing in mind that whenever i try i only acheive contact between the golf bat and the ball one time in 5. One in 3 if you count the ball being struck by the divot of earth gouged by the bat.

    Looking forward to the results!

    Hi Robert:
Yes, the odds of getting a hole in one OR rolling a 300 game in bowling is not exact, mainly because there are too many variables to take into account. The LOWEST I've seen for a hole in one (probability) is approx 3000:1 for non pros (which I think is way too low) the highest 85,000:1 (too high? maybe. I've been playing since I was 12 and have to to get one!)

This is why I stated APPROX since there really is no way of knowing.

You can calculate the probability of a professional player getting one "a little" more accurately; this is anywhere from 3720:1 to 2500:1

If you can somehow estimate the number of par 3s played each year, how many players played them and how many Hole in ones were reported you can try to come up with a probability. Hard to do.

I KNEW some ANAL person here would challenge me on this! LOL

    The rest later.

  15. :D Of course!

Come on! Kevin would'nt let me get away with a brick which weighed 1 kg because kg is a unit of mass, not weight.

    This forum RUNS on pedantry!

    Thats what makes it great!

    hahaha

    I remember that.

    OK....here are the answers.

Having a meteor hit your house 182,138,880,000,000:1
    Power ball 146,107,962:1
Dying from a falling part of an airplane 10,000,000:1 (go figure!)
    Royal Flush 649,740:1
Struck (not killed) by lightening 576,000:1
Dying in a car accident 18,585:1
    Bowling a 300 game APPROX. 11,500:1
    Hole in one APPROX 5000:1
