First, it was the "graduate-entry" (READ: BACKDOOR) pharmacy degree and now, yet another fee-paying "masters" (AKA crash-course PROFESSIONAL degree for people who didn't make the cut after Y12) for podiatry. ...and so begins the downward ebb in standards and quality of yet another health profession. It's fast approaching the bottom of the barrel.

    Who ever $aid univer$itie$ didn't exi$t $olely for it$ $taff?!

How do you know that? Have you seen the curriculum? The Registration Board has to approve it. Some of these issues were discused in the options soon to be available at LaTrobe

Gees, I wasn't aware of the hostility that exists out there.

Provided the screening process was adequate, I'm not sure we should have a problem with graduates moving into Podiatry via postgraduate studies. When I completed my degree at UWS Macarthur, I watched a few fellow Podiatry students who had come from other health professions charge through the course. They clearly had a greater grasp of the health sciences than most of the people who made "the cut after year 12". I'm not sure that these people needed the full 4 years that we all went through.

Let's also face it, many people don't reach their full potential academically until well after "year 12". Perhaps you are jumping to conclusions about who would pick up such a post grad degree and also what the entry criterior would be. Maybe we should be a little more open about the expansion of our profession, I'm sure they are not all out to get us.

    Regards
    Trent

I didn't make the cut at yr 12 because I was not interested.....got an VCE ENTER of 93 with only four subjects and first class honours to finish my honours degree in my 30's...but gee somehow you manage to maKe me feel inferior......hardly. I've already had three successful and fulfilling different spheres of employment....is it OK with you if I have another go? ....It's the learning phase I enjoy most. This move is not just about standards it's about the cost of retraining later in life ......if it takes 4 yrs very few people can afford to do it, let's face it if Uni worked all yr it would only take 2 yrs anyway......the govt wants more and cheaper health care workers and the best way to meet future demand is pack them in at Uni and make the training as cheap as possible.....my God this is such a complex multi-faceted issue......there is always another angle to it....for doctors they just steal them off third world countries...costs too much to train enough of our own kids....lets get them off some one who can afford it even less...our govt has no ethics and no conscience, can't imagine why I ever thought they did.
    regards

No worries mate. I agree with your sentiment. In NSW it's a UAI or it used to be a TER, I agree that it is not the be all and end all.

    Trent :)
