Hello my name is Dr. Francois Allart. I am surprised that there is a D.P.M degree in South Africa. Please tell me more about your education.

    Hello!

I have recently graduated from La Trobe University in Melbourne but am from South Africa myself. Moved to Australia in 2004. Are you doing your course at Wits? Where is it offered in SA? Have you got any plans to move to Aus and practice?

    Cheers,
    Kim

    Hi there

The University of Johannesburg (former Technikon Witwatersarnd) to my knowledge is the only institution in Africa which offers a 4 year bachelor degree in Podiatry. The course is regulated by the Health Professions Council (SA) [HPCSA] and all podiatrists register with council as independent practitioners.

Students complete both their theoretical (academic) tuition at the University and clinical experiential training at the University and at clinical placements at various provincial hospitals and through community engagement projects.Students actively treat patients from years 2-4 and over this 3 year period are required too complete manadatory clinical hours as determined by the HPCSA.In the final year students complete a research project and dissertation.

Hope that helps. If you require any further information please feel free to contact me: fatimac@uj.ac.za

    Kind regards

    Fatima
