Should Sicknote Be Kicked Off Podiatry Arena?

Discussion in 'Podiatry Arena Help, Suggestions and Comments' started by Kevin Kirby, Aug 9, 2011.

The poster known as "Sicknote" has received the scorn from many of us here on Podiatry Arena due to the nonsensical, sometimes dangerous health advice that they seem to continually come up with. In my opinion, individuals like Sicknote should be banned not only due to their stupid replies but also because their absurd claims and comments seem to ruin otherwise good threads on this academic podiatric website that is intended for podiatric professionals and for other foot-health specialists.......not for village idiots.

I would be interested in the opinions of others on this subject.

I don't think Sicknote should be banned. It is clear from his/her early 'boasting' about how many forums they had previously been banned from that coming on here and talking nonsense has probably been with the sole intention of getting banned all along. (The posts are so ill-informed that they are clearly intentionally inflammatory - noone can actually be that stupid). As Craig has said previously regarding barefoot zealots - most of them just want their 'badge of honour'. I don't think we should give him/her the satisfaction.

In my opinion we should all just ignore him/her. They'll soon get bored talking to themselves. For me, life is too short to waste energy and focus on one person that I don't like. If I go to the park to have a picnic I don't set it up next to the only dog turd....

  4. Anonymity allows for a lack of accountability. In general though, I agree with Ian. While the poster in question is clearly ill-informed, they are also quite obviously attention-seeking. Indeed, I'm sorry to say that this thread just fuels that further.

The type of individual represented by sicknote live in their own little world of assumption and self delusion without having had the benefit of a smattering of scientific education, or even that of an enquiring mind.

There are also those who visit these pages who might initially accept some of the twaddle which is peddled by sicknote and her like but who are willing to seek sensible answers. I contend that as professionals, we do owe a duty to the latter which we can carry out by swatting the former. It would therefore be counter-productive to ban the snake oil salesmen (and women).

Hey David is that a picture of early Peripheral Neuropathy testing ? Or does that represent painful gout?

Anything that is posted on this forum is fine by me. It is there to agree or disagree with.

When the person intimidates a member whoever they are by private messaging to the point where that member feels the need to tell them to refrain from sending PM's and that they are unwelcome on the open forum........

Then YES in my book they should be banned.

That is why I called it.

    Cheers
    D;)

  9. Is sicknote a "podiatric professional or other foot-health specialist".

If the answer is No then I'm with Kevin. Its just a pain in the hole. He's welcome to his badge of honour provided he takes it somewhere else. Its attention only for as long it takes craig to hit the button.

Then again, this ain't a democracy...

We should all refrain from feeding Internet trolls. :)
Ban if they have become abusive, but most of the time if you ignore them they go away.

JB I was just joking of course but I'd say it could be either if this is multiple choice? :D

I tend to agree with Kevin, Robert and Derek, this person has no value on a professional forum. What's especially disturbing is Derek's point about Sickie abusing a female member via PM. Face it; the guy is a troll and an a**hole with an agenda that runs counter to etiquette, common sense AND science.

I've noticed some confusion between cause and effect and we obviously think differently, but seriously, I don't see the point of banning anyone. If there was an academic requirement for participation here, I would surely be banned. it's through free exchange of ideas and the conflict generated that new ideas are formed. In many cases, those ideas turn into features and the patient benefits.

One of the features I like about Facebook is the block option for any user, friend or otherwise. In the absence of this feature I'd trust the administrator's decision, but would recommend adding the block feature.

    Hi Joe,

Podiatry Arena: Control panel & select Buddy/Ignore list

Unsure if it blocks a user from contacting directly or blocks their posts entirely from your view? Perhaps the lovely Admin will enlighten us.

    Regards,

    Mandy.

Dealing with trolls a lot, I know what they are like...unfortunately. They love winding people up and bask in what angry reactions they have managed to create. Like you say, banning and ignoring is the only real way to get rid of them, unless of course they just love to be a no-friended twit who trolls on their own on Podiatry sites. *shrugs* You get all sorts.
