    Hi,
Is there anyone out there who can help me with renewing my registration please. I let it lapse over 2 years ago and now find that I have to complete 30 days of courses, study and supervised clinical work. There seems to be no back to practice courses and the oweness, appears to be on the practitioner, but finding a mentor, is proving impossible. I can work as a podiatry assistant, if anyone would like one for 3 weeks. Just need someone who has been registered for 3 years to monitor me. Also, to look at my private study and courses, to ensure I have actually done all the work.
I have been in touch with the Society of Podiatrists and also the British Podiatry, but no response from either, so it really looks as if no help is forthcoming from any of the professional bodies.
Has anyone else any experience of this. Would appreciate some input thanks chris

    Hi Chris,

    Who is your Professional Body?

If the BCHPA they can probably help. Otherwise write to whoever your professional body is and ask them direct.

If you do not have one you are probably in trouble, because I think they will need to see your HPC registration before letting you join (unless you have your previous registration number and membershp number).

    Hi davidh,
I contacted both the BCHPA and the Society of Podiatrists, both bodies have just ignored my emails. I am now in desperation trying to contact Nhs Trusts etc. directly. Also, I have spent hours on the internet, trying to find courses, but they seem few and far between.
thanks for your response, the only one I have had, so far. just need to find a mentor, which means someone who has been registered for 3 years with the HPC. thanks Chris

    Hi Chris,

THe Society of Chiropodists & Podiatrists www.feetforlife.org

If you key RETURN TO WORK INFORMATION FOR PODIATRISTS IN THE UK into the search on the right of the home page more information will be displayed.

A friend of mine also took a few years career break & updated all her clinical requirements for HPC registration at Huddersfield University.

Contacting their Podiatry dept. by telephone may be more helpful than an internet search.

    divisional secretary Mandy Collinson.
    Mandy's details are:
    Ms Mandy Collinson
    Podiatry Secretary
    Division of Podiatry
    University of Huddersfield
    Queensgate
    West Yorkshire
    HD1 3DH
    Telephone: 01484 472561

    Good luck.

    Regards,

    Mandy

    Hi Chris,

I take it so that you have not practised for two years or more...

It is not just if you have lapsed on your HPC membership for more than two years.
Just asking because that is what I initially thought for my return to the HPC, but I escaped having to do the return to practice thing by about a week. I had not worked for two years minus a week (whew)

On the SOCAP website, there is a page 'Return to work information for podiatrists in the UK’ this also explains that they have a ‘Register of Mentors” and an email address for the CPD officer, Debra Barlatt-Browne email: db@scpod, for further information on fulfilling the return to practice requirements.

Good luck with the red tape

    Elizabeth

    Hi Chris

I always find it is much better to phone the society of chiropodists and podiatrists, much quicker response and often very helpful! Try the employment relations department, either:
Director of Employment Relations Eddie Saville on 0845 450 3734 es@scpod.org
    Professional Practice Officer Kay Blowes 0845 450 3752 KB@scpod.org
Employment Relations Officer Bob Wearn 07733 111692 bw@scpod.org

If no luck elsewhere, it might be worth checking the hpc website for people registered near you, and contacting them directly to see if they are willing to help?

Would also recommend contacting your local nhs department, they may let you attend their cpd courses (I know ours advertises cpd courses to private practitioners) and may be willing to let you join them for supervision?

Also, Plymouth, Eastborne and Southampton also have schools, who may be willing to let you work in their clinics, might be worth contacting them? (I know bit of a long way, but I think these are closest to you?)

Don't know if you've tried to join the scp, but I think they let you join whilst undergoing your supervision, and will give you access to local branch network, and private practitioners who have signed up to the mentors register.

    Good luck with everything!

thanks for that. I have contacted the school in Cardiff, as I have friends up there. Also, the society actually responded to my email of 14th. May, this morning! So maybe things will pick up from here now. cheers chris
