    Hi Podiatry arena users

Just a question regarding pay grades in Australia. At present the grade and experience you have in the UK is dictated by a pay band.

I see most Australian job adverts including Grade 1 and Grade 2.

From my understanding a grade 2 position when advertised is for a clinician with more clinical experience? (correct me if I am wrong)

On average how much would you expect to earn in a grade 2 position? Are the grade 1 positions mainly for newly qualified podiatrists?

    thanks
    Charlotte

    Hi Charlotte,
the pay scales in Australia can vary from state to state. In NSW in the Public Health System the pay scale is governed by the Health Professionals Award. Level 1 is split over 4 years depending on experience. A new graduate poditrist would generally start on Level 1 Year 1 0r 2 (depending if they trained in a 3 yr or 4 yr degree) and then progress to Level 1 yr4. The next year they go to a Level2 yr1 and progress to a level2 yr 4 over the next 4 years.
You will not go to a Level 3 after this unless you apply for a position with that grading associated to it. You can however apply for a position that is graded at Level3 or aboove prior to finishing a Level 2Yr 4 if you fit the criteria.
At the moment Level 1 Yr 1 is $1040 pw up to Level 2 Yr 4 $1508 pw.
    Hope that Helps,
    Tim
