Colleagues around the world may be unaware that Liverpool is this year's European City of Culture.

Stealing wheels only from luxury cars, correct spelling of graffiti and now caged female fighting! Culture strikes again!

When I first came across this story, it reminded me of that saying "Only in the USA" ... I guess we can now change it to "Only in Liverpool" :dizzy:

    Believe me people,

On a saturday night in either Liverpool or Doncaster (where these ladies herald from) some 'ladies' don't even need a cage.

My parents are from Liverpool (mind your car in July Bill ;) ) & I live in Doncaster.

I coulda been a contenda! :boxing:

Must sort out my lucky knuckle dusters.

    Regards, Killa twirls:boxing:

The SPORT that is commonly referred to as 'cage fighting' is actually Mixed Martial Arts (MMA). The participants train to high level in a variety of sports such as thai boxing, boxing, olympic wrestling, jujitsu & judo. To be able to compete in just one of these disciplines requires skill. Combining everything requires even more.

Hey Shortcake (and Dianne Berry if she's listening)

Do we have the beginings of the PALMA Podiatry Arena Leauge of Martial Artists.

I run a MMA club in Folkestone UK, Its been going for 3 years. I also do Judo, Karate and Gracie / Brazilian Ju JItsu. I have been practicing for over 40years and have been a 3rd dan for about 20years or so.

Well done to Dianne it always takes a lot of guts to step up into the ring no matter what level.

    All the best Dave

    Hiya Dave

Hahaha... PALMA sounds good ;) I started off in Thai over 20 years ago, then started MMA about 4 years ago. I love it!! Keeps me sane. Great for fitness, self-defence, socialising, etc.. I fight out of Blackledge MMA in Wigan. What's your club called? Do you ever go to the shows around the North West?

Yes you've guessed it. I am the lady in question :D I pass by the forums every now & then. Couldn't believe what I was reading on this thread, so had to post :deadhorse:

Also I don't live in Doncaster or Liverpool, but they do have very nice, friendly law abiding citizens living there too!! :D

I am well up for PALMA - I practice Thai and Aikdo and would relish training specifically for stJt manipulations and PF pummelling - may be the new ultrasound.

Like the non de plume do you also have a fighting psuedonym - The Wigan Whaker perhaps?

My club is Kengai MMA Folkestone, Kengai means combined strength.

Forty and fighting fit, I like it. No haven't been up North for MMA comps but have been training around Birmingham and North Wales - Telford Kyushinkai. Some of my guys fought at the Circus Tavern and down in Brighton and nearby at Herne Bay, which is run by Ring Warriors from South London.
My last fight was last year, which I won but at just over 50 it takes ages to recover. I think I might stick to training and coaching from now on. I've had hundreds of fights over the years and stacks of medals and trophies gathering dust in the garage.

We've had many females training but they don't stay for long. This seems true in most MA discplines, so fair play to you for sticking to it.

The Cage Rage title gives people the wrong idea I think. ( I know it supposed to do that but) People get the idea that its no holds barred no rules street fighting. But of course it's not. It probably is more controlled in terms of safety to fighters than professional Boxing. The skill level can be very high as you say, except the UFC American version is getting more like WWF IE get big and shout a lot. The Canadian version UCC is very highly skilled and the origin of MMA I believe.

Shortcake, How's the wrestling skils, that's my favourite, get em down and submit em or ground and pound ( preferr a submission tho more skill IMO.)

    Cheers Dave

Is it possible to have folk nominated to participate in cage fights?

Only I know a few NHS manager types in need of a good work out :hammer:

    Good luck to Shortcake!!

I used to be well into Thai boxing too.....was even ranked 7th in the UK for about a week (at heavyweight).

Only managed 6 fights but still got to fight at York Hall in London and Leeds town hall a couple of times.....really quite a cool experience to pummel someone to bits in front of 800 screaming idiots :)

Due to an old injury (cheesecake variety) I will no longer be advertising myself as a contender.

I would like to take the opportunity to offer the very best of luck to Shortcake in her quest. :boxing:

Yours (running in the opposite direction)

    :drinks , twirls

PS. Thai green curry is lovely, my favourite colour in fact. ;)
Only until they make a yellow variety.
