This link came up on the Podiatry Arena web site on the Forum general issues page.
Hover your mouse over ORTHOTICS and the word Podiatry appears.
However checking their site reveals that there are no podiatrists on staff.
Are they permitted to do this?

It is misleading unless you click on the link for the explanation. In the U.S., in my state as a D.C. I cannot refer to myself as offering podiatry or podiatric services in advertising. They're selling Step Forward insoles which are Alzner devices, not on par with podiatric level services at any rate.

That could land you in trouble. Failure to refer to an appropriate professional or specialist for any condition is unprofessional conduct.

Yes because foot orthoses offer so much dynamic functional improvement when your heel is off the ground right? I could go on but the rest of their marketing is just bull.

If just one of my colleagues would discuss the functional arches of the foot without including the mythical transverse metatarsal arch I would hug them.

You can buy these on EBay for $29.95.

Eh? For what conditions? Ask them to substantiate that and I bet it gets removed from their website pronto.

    Verdict: TURD; Watch Your Step!

we can report him to AHPRA through the notifications centre. Justice will then take its place

David, you have hit the nail on the head yet again.

Can I interest anyone in a straw man...

I'm not trying to 'correct' any arch when I prescribe orthoses (be they mythical or actual)

    Evidence please Perth City Chiropractor.

This sounds like a library system?

I make AUS$375 to be approximately £245. Is that cheaper than a custom made device? Depends on what you charge.
Is it ridiculously marked up for a library device? You bet your a$$.

A company which appears to have poor knowledge of how orthoses actually work, which is selling over-priced devices with claims of 95% success rates and belittling other suppliers of orthoses (esp Podiatry) in the process you say... This all sounds too familiar... Do they give a money back guarantee as well?

Just found this on the Step Forward Orthotics site:

    Neck and Shoulder pain?

A device which helps pronation/fallen arches AND supination/high arches?

  8. Good stuff then.

So you go to your Perth Chiropractor for back/neck pain they see you some really expensive better than Podiatry insoles ( whatever a Podiatry insole is ?) Which fixes your back/neck pain so you don't need to see the Chiropractor anymore.

    Makes sense not.

Report them to AHPRA. They are clearly misleading the public.

I don't mind competition if it's honest. But when they are clearly misinforming the public... they need to be made accountable for these misleading statements. Hopefully, AHPRA will order them to remove such rubbish.

Someone please enlighten me as to how these people "correct arches". This type of thinking and wording is indicative of their podiatric and postural knowledge... somewhat primitive.

Wow. I don't even have the energy to know where to start. Suffice to say, there's more sh!t on that site than there is in my local park. Just glad to be the other side of the world to this 'specialist'

Sound somewhat familiar Ian, can you think of any other one trick pony systems/labs that promote devices that work on all 3 arches (sic) of the foot, prepare the foot for heel strike, help with with BOTH pronation and supination issues? This type of inaccurate drivel is promoted by those with a very low level of understanding of lower extremity biomechanics and a profit motive. Its all about "overpronation". What about supination? Oh yes, it 'corrects' that too! Eyeroll.

I just this week contacted a colleague who maintains a rather nice and useful website of research on chiropractic because of these type of unsubstantiated claims. Buried within he had a paper by a certain 'professor' with a foot type personally named after himself (hint, hint..wink, wink..) where similar miracles have been performed by using his product. The paper was pulled after a short discussion.

Mike are you suggesting that chiropractors seek resolution of symptoms and and end point to passive care? Blasphemous!!

    Can't add anything here, agreed.

I can't even find the guys credentilals other than B. App. Sci. I wonder if that is equivalent to a B.S. degree here? Hardly makes one an expert in any field though now does it? My personal favorite is the massage therapists that call themselves "Structural Integrationists". Its massage a**hole, call it what it is!

That's just beautiful stuff there Ian! Quote of the year contender!
