    Hi,
Looking for some advice. I recently saw a patient who told me she had a diagnosis of borderline diabetes a few years ago, but her gp has never followed it up since. She also has very recently lost her husband and i feel i should urge her to get another test done by her gp to find out whether she is diabetic or not, but i am not sure she can deal with this at this time. My questions are, should i gently urge her to go for a test ? and should i do a diabetic foot check on her (doppler and monofilament)?
    Thanks

The GP is being negligent in not following this up.

The evidence is really clear that those in the so-called 'borderline' diabetes group are at greater risk for the cardiovascular events.

Thanks craig for your reply. I think i will try to get this lady to get a blood test from her gp.

I do a complications screening regardless of borderline or not. Then the report goes to the gp often prompting them to test the patients BSL again.

I agree, the GP in question is falling short of the minimum standard of care by not following this up.

Thanks Judy, i will do the Diabetic Foot check and send it to the gp, to prompt them.
