blades or studs?

Does anyone have any experience/advice that they can share with regard to the use of blades or studs on football/rugby boots? Which are preferable (apart from the obvious that blades are considered too sharp for the younger rugby players)? Some suggestion has been made that blades are too 'grippy' and do not allow enough rotation on the ground and there can be some knees and ankle strains as a result?

Grip depends on shoe and surface. I can imagine a surface where nothing would be too grippy.
