    Hi
Don't know if anyone can help - I have a 33 year old female patient who was issued orthoses several month ago. Due to an accident in her childhood, her right foot tends to operate around a supinated STJ with little pronation and her left tends to pronate moderately during gait. I prescribed orthotic devices to address both feet individually and to reduce strain on her right peroneals, which had been the source of some pain.
The orthoses work well and the pain has resolved and her gait pattern feels more comfortable to her - However: on the right side with the lateral wedging, no matter what type of sock she wears they bunch up under the lateral column about midway along the 5th met. I have tried adjusting the device several times both increasing and decreasing wedging and bulk with no success. There is no problem with the left sock/orthotic.
The patient finds this happens mainly after 15 mins of brisk walking and then once the sock is pulled up, it happens every 2 - 3 mins thereafter.
    Any suggestions??
    Cheers

Have a look at the Dr. Comfort socks, there maybe others, they have a mid foot band that they refer to as "light arch support" may just help your client, here is a link

Robin thats going to look shocking with the clients leather shorts, l would go for something simple and quick like a staple or two that wont be seen.

    No socks!

    Problem solved....

    :)

  5. What top cover are you using?

Sounds to me like the friction of the top cover against the sock is the issue.

If no top cover then ?

What Mike said. Maybe try a vinyl cover rather than something with a bit of grip to it.

Thanks for the replies. I had a full length vinyl top cover put on the devices when they were prescribed so I don't think it's a friction issue. I think changing the type of sock could be the answer...

I get the same problem with certain socks and others are fine. Just try different socks.
