Hi,
I´m a Spanish podiatrist wanting to work in the UK. I´ve been told that I need an accreditation of the Spanish goverment (that I already have) and to register in the HCPC (I´m on it). But I have a question, by doing these 2 things can I work directly in the UK? Do I need to contact first any other organization to have my degree recognized? I would apreciate any help with this, I´m very interested on moving to the UK and I´m a little bit lost.

Provided that your degree has been recognised by the HCPC and that you are registered with that body then you can work in the UK. It would certainly be to your advantage to join one of the professional bodies and, in any case, you will need to hold appropriate professional insurance. There are few opportunities for employment within the NHS currently but private practice is always an option.

good luck hispana . if other countries in the eu have a massive youth unemployment problem many of thier professionals will come to the uk for work which they are legally allowed to do will this make it increasingly difficult for our homegrown graduates to get jobs. i know loads of dentists from poland my mate is married to one, i wonder how many european pod grads will come to the uk.

 

I think that it's fair to say 'not many'. Obviously the recession here is biting and the UK will be increasingly unattractive to pods from the EU, since the number of NHS posts are rapidly dropping, and we all know the difficulties of setting up in pp (or any other business).

Having said that, the OP asked that if she was HCPC registered and had a pod degree from Spain, could (not should) she work here. The answer is yes. Whether life will be any easier in the UK is a matter of conjecture.
