Delayed strapping allergy

    Hi All,
I have recently had a patient who, whilst her foot was strapped, had no problems regarding pruritis or visible reaction. The strapping was removed and 7 days later has had a nasty skin reaction to the taping. The reaction is quite obviously in the distribution and demarcation of the strapping.
Has anyone else seen this kind of delayed reaction and is there a difference to an otherwise "normal" allergy??
    Thanks in advance.
    Stuart

    Hi Stuart,

I have developed a similar reaction myself after working as a podiatrist and being in close contact with strapping tape. The area becomes red and inflamed 3-4 days following removal. I have a similar reaction to powered gloves, hence I use the non powered gloves (It is not a latex alergy). The worse reaction I have is to TbCo. When it comes in contact with my skin, I wash it off immediately and just wait. After about 5-7 days the area starts to swell, goes red and skin peals off and my whole body starts to itch. The reaction to TbCo put me in hospital the first time I reacted to it!!

I don't have an answer, just try to keep away from such things now or wear protective equipment. I try all the usual topical and oral medications, but usually just sit it out. By day 10 I am alright.

    Regards
    Paul Bramley

  5. Hi Paul,
thanks for the response. It was actually the patient who had the reaction. I have never seen such a delayed response previously but at least I know if others have had it or seen it, it may not be as weird as I first thought
    Kind Regards,
    Stuart
