The problem as I see it!

    With regards to the £12 DOM fee, the problem is the vastly different levels of service that are provided.

    I have heard of cases of thickened nails hardly touched for months by so called chiropodists who have been going regularly. Corns and callouses hardly touched on care home residents.

    People who have never been given any advice on their pathology.

    The problem is that until customers go to someone who is giving a good and thorough service (and I'm not talking about a nice bit of cream at the end), they do not know what good quality chiropody is.

    And with these individuals charging £12 for a DOM, what do you expect?

    Oh the technical term for someone who provides a very good service at a very cheap price: busy fool!

    You said

    It all depends on your marketing plan.

    Do you want to have a low price per unit ( a "unit" being a treatment) and rely on turnover, like a Pound Shop or have a high price per unit and treat fewer patients?

    In my experience those that try to compete on price alone soon burn themselves out.

    20 patients per day at £12 = £240
    10 patients per day at £24 = £240

    I know what my choice would be.

    Let the £12.00 a pop practitioners carry on, I don't see them as serious competition.

    Trouble is its the" pound shop" that is doing remarkably well in the recession not the "marks & Spencer's" !!!

    That may be true Pauline, but working on the principle of "buy cheap, buy twice" those customer will be back to M & S pretty quickly when their Pounshop goods fall to bits in a couple of weeks.

    The same applies to footcare, IMO.

    Just had a guy phone up, "I'm diabetic and want my nails cutting, how much please?"

    I said, "assessment, advice, treatment, £27" I had the phone put down on me.


    Talking of shops that sell everything for £1. have heard of 2 cases recently. 1 pair of glasses (spectacles), and a toy. both broke very quickly. buy cheap, buy twice.
