    Colleagues:

I recently received this e-mail from a young man training for the Royal Marine Commandos and I told him I would try and find him a good sports podiatrist in the Liverpool Area that could make him effective foot orthoses for his medial tibial stress syndrome. Any suggestions of podiatrists in his area?? He would like to stay in the Liverpool or immediate surrounding area.

If this gentleman receives orthoses I would suggest that he keeps that to himself when it comes to the medical entrance examination. I have heard of some people being rejected for military service if they wear orthoses...
I suggest that they do not wear them for the medical, encourage foot posture exercises and reinforce that the orthoses are there in part to teach good foot posture so that they should be able to pass the medical without question.
Wear the orthoses for all other times. Plenty in the military do...
This is topical as we had a patient in this week wanting a permanent fix for his asymptomatic flat feet as he had been rejected from the army on this basis.

  3. Certainly someone from the UK can give this gentleman some information on who could possibly help him best in the Northwest of England??

Maybe he should try RS Scan Lab Ltd ( 00 44 (0) 1473 831384 ) who have just completed a three year research paper with the MOD regarding orthoses, they will probably know of someone who can help him more local to Liverpool.

  6. Craig, never experienced this problem and I treat lots of servicemen. Kevin, he could always contact the Salford School of Podiatry in Manchester or make the effort to come down and see me in Plymouth, it's only about five hours away ;)

  7. Hello Kevin - would be happy to see this lad. I'm about an hour from Liverpool

What are the thoughts on the research mentioned above by RS Scan and their D3D orthotics?
