open heel surgery absorbable screws

    I had a fractured heel spur removed 1 1/2 weeks ago. 2" absorbable" screws were inserted. What are possible complications of these screws? Do they...

    These are questions you should ask your surgeon.

    As for absorbing....these screws hydrolize; that is the water content of your body slowly breaks them down. For instance, if you were to place one of these screws in a glass of water it would eventually disappear. The larger the screw, i.e., the more mass there is the longer it takes to breakdown.

    It is difficult to determine, post operatively, the placement of the screws since they do not show up on plain radiographs.
