Do we all believe that we are seeing this on a podiatry discussion board?

Hello Maverick. You are much more likely to be taken seriously on this forum if you frame your questions in a scientific manner and write over your own name. I suggest that you initially address your question to your tutors and then post again if the responses are insufficient for your needs.

I am a college student planning on going to podiatry school so, I have no one to ask right now. I saw an article on ultra runners who opt for this procedure instead of dealing with toenail issues and was curious.

Not sure if you meant I should use my real name but, my name is Maverick.

    Hi Maverick

    No problem.

Simply put; there are various ways to remove a nail and keep it from returning.

The final cosmetic results vary not only depending on the actual procedure (removal of the nail and nail "root" via scalpel, removal by chemical means, etc...) but the condition of the nail and nail bed at the time of removal.

In addition, not everyone heals the same, so there is also an individual variance.
