    Hi,
I had a pt last week who had part ( 2cm squared) of her calcaneum removed in early life due to what she described as a large boney lump that protruded from her foot. She now at the tender age of 19 has a very painful deltoid ligament. The scar is just slightly anterior to the painful area, but I'm wondering if it has anything to do with it.
After doing a biomechanical assessment, I've prescibed her some orthotics and convinced her to not wear pumps - the bain of my life, but I'm wondering if there is anything else that I shoudl be looking for or to advise her?

    Thanks, as always!!

    Lucy

    Hi Lucucool:
Most likely an accessory navicular resected.
I have seen it all with these as far as surgical intervention - so anything is possible; from still having an accessory bone, to having the Navicular tuberosity not removed properly or sufficiently, to a gouge taken out of the talar head, to partial, total and anything in between disruption of the deltoid, etc........

I would start with what you are doing, control her pronation and go from there. If no help I would get an Xray and see what you have.

Results of muscle testing? Pain with eversion in the chair? There are several muscles that go right over the deltoid lig (and under the scar?).
