I have been contacted by my friendly Radiologists who has discovered a hemorrhage at the site of Abductor digiti minimi in an otherwise healthy middle aged lady. He tells me this is a condition sometimes referred to as Weasel Toe.

Can anyone shed more light on this poorly reported condition, pathophysiology/mechanics, treatment options or differential diagnoses to be looking out for?

    Many thanks in advance!

Never heard of it! Google only turns up this wikipedia reference:
"the abductor digiti minimi is often the target of injury" ..... often?.....I don't think so!; "commonly known as Weasel Toe" .... commonly? ....I don't think so.

I have never read any definitive literature about specific functions of intrinsic muscles. Much has been said, much based upon conjecture. Frankly, the only study that comes to mind is Mann and Inman circa 1964 - "phasic muscle of the intrinsic muscles of the foot" - the bottom line was that they work longer and harder in flat feet. Er, Hello? If anyone knows different, I will back off straight away - I am becoming out of date with the literature.
