    Dear All

I am tasked with collecting evidence to support the collection of samples for Microbiology (and mycology) in a large Community based NHS Podiatry Service.

At present, the best we can do (in the community setting ) is request that the sample is taken at the GP Practice. This has obvious disadvantages, as we are potentially missing the opportunity to take a swab/sample, losing an element of control over the treatment of the ? infected wound etc.

I am a non-medical prescriber and it is essential in my opinion that I can collect such samples before I start antibiotic therapy.

There are logistical and Governance problems to overcome. I am collecting evidence to support the introduction of this tool to the Community based Podiatrists. PLEASE CAN YOU HELP?

Firstly, any of you working in the NHS Community setting with guidelines/protocols for collection and interpretation please let me know. If you can send me copies of these even better.

    e-mail staines.mike@lpct.nhs.uk

Any Podiatry specific articles supporting this would also be appreciated.

Most of the literature I have collected thus far, concerns the secondary Specialist Centres. Community is much more helpful.

Many thanks in anticipation of your responses

    Mike:D
